Study started to find out the carrying capacity of the Four Dhams
When a large number of pilgrims arrive at the beginning of the journey, the pressure on the arrangements increases. Pollution Control Board has asked WII to study the carrying capacity of pilgrims in the Dhams and submit a report to know how the arrangements should be.
Responsibility given to WII Wild Life Institute of India
Wild Life Institute of India (WII) has started a study to assess the carrying capacity of pilgrims in Hemkund Sahib, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. Pollution Control Board has given this responsibility to the institute.
In this study, the institute will give a comprehensive report on many points including capacity of pilgrims to stay at the religious place, medical facilities, garbage disposal, number of mules and horses and their management. This will help in better management of the Yatra in future. When a large number of pilgrims arrive at the beginning of the Yatra, the pressure on the arrangements increases.
Pollution Control Board has asked WII to study the carrying capacity of pilgrims in the Dhams and submit a report to know how the arrangements should be according to how much pressure increases and decreases at the beginning of the Yatra, during rainy season and at the end.
WII has selected those three places where the journey is done on foot or by horse and is comparatively difficult. Apart from this, Gangotri has also been included, where one can reach directly by vehicle.
